BUYING A RASHGUARD SHIRT
A rashguard is meant to be a protection against the sun. All rashguards at Telstar Surf have a UV resistant label on the inside of the rashguard, this way you are always protected against the sun. For this reason you should always use a rashguard t-shirt to make sure you are protected against the sun. The skin is extra exposed to UV rays because of the reflection of the water. This in combination with the salty water, is more likely to get sunburned. Wave surfers also use a rashguard to prevent irritation on the chest, caused by friction between you and the board.
A common misconception is that you can wear a rashguard shirt under a wetsuit for extra warmth. This is not true. A rashguard actually causes cooling under your surf suit. Therefore, only wear a rashguard in warm weather. A neoprene shirt, on the other hand, does provide extra warmth.
BUY A NEOPRENE SHIRT
A neoprene shirt can be used in two ways. Underneath your surf suit it provides extra warmth. In addition, you can also use it during a summer day or for your surf sessions on vacation. Because of the extra warmth that a neoprene shirt provides, you can surf in your neoprene shirt instead of your wetsuit. This is nice because a wetsuit on warm days is often too hot and a rashguard might be just too cold. We offer both women's and men's neoprene tops.

Then you will know for sure that the shirt fits well.
THE WARMTH OF A NEOPRENE OR RASHGUARD SHIRT
When buying a neoprene t-shirt, warmth will be an important factor in making a decision. There are different thicknesses of neoprene shirts to choose from so there is something for everyone. Are you going on the water in chilly weather? Then choose a thicker neoprene t-shirt. Do you like to surf in warmer conditions? Then put on a rashguard t-shirt so you don't burn.
