This Goya mast has a carbon percentage of 70%. What does this mean for the mast? With a carbon percentage of 70%, this mast falls somewhat in the mid-range. The masts with more carbon percentage will have a faster reflex and will be slightly lighter. The downside is that those masts are also more sensitive to punctual loading. This mast is right in between. This Goya mast is great for wave or freestyle riders who don't want to pay full price for a mast but want a good quality home.
SDM or RDM
You probably hear the terms dropped here and there regarding the diameter of a windsurfing mast. There are 2 types of diameter masts available RDM and SDM.
- SDM stands for Standard Diameter Mast. Logically, this is the mast with the thicker diameter. These masts are sailed in 80% of masts. These SDM masts are used by freeriders, freerace, slalom and racers. The ideal diameter is also indicated on your sail.
- RDM stands for Reduced Diameter Mast, which means the diameter of the mast is smaller. The RDM mast has a thicker wall thickness and is stronger. It is often used by wave and freestyle windsurfers. Want to know what thickness you need? Look on your sail or sail cover, which often indicates the optimum mast.
