1. Mirns

To start with Mirns, although it is not around the corner for everyone it is one of the more popular spots in the Netherlands. In fact, Mirns offers perfect conditions for both novice and experienced kitesurfers. The shallow water stretches far out, making it a safe and comfortable place to learn to kitesurf. Beginners can practice quietly here and become familiar with the wind and water before taking the next step.

For advanced kitesurfers, the spot is a great place to improve their skills and try new tricks. The constant wind, when coming from a southern direction, provides optimal kite conditions, while the flat water is perfect for freestyle and freeride.

Kitesurfing at Mirns is done with the wind coming from the west, southwest, south, southeast or east. Also pay attention to the kite zones that are marked with yellow buoys. This is because the kite spot is close to a nature reserve.

2. Workum

We are sticking around in beautiful Friesland for a while, as Workum is also on our list. Located on the north side of the IJsselmeer and equipped with a gradually sloping bottom makes this a suitable spot for beginner, freeride, freestyle and foil kiters.

You launch your kite in or near the water. Then you can enjoy yourself in the relatively shallow water. When you're done, you also land your kite in or near the water and roll up your kite lines immediately upon arrival on land. The beaches are shallow, but very stretched out. Plenty of room to start and land safely. Note: Workum is one of the most visited spots in the Netherlands, so take that into account!

Kitesurfing at Workum is done with the wind from the northwest, west or southwest.

Brouwersdam, located between Zeeland and South Holland, is a real hotspot for kitesurfers. The expansive beach and shallow waters combined with flat water create ideal conditions for freestyle and freeride kitesurfers. Brouwersdam is also an excellent spot for beginners to practice.

You can launch and land your kite from the large beach. There is plenty of space so you can go about your business. Parking and beach facilities are well organized at this spot. It is good to know that you have to deal with tides at Brouwersdam. At low tide the beach gets a lot bigger, at high tide the water is super shallow and mirror smooth. This makes for some great sessions!

4. Strand Horst

In the middle of the country we find Strand Horst. With a location right off the A28: 3 kite beaches, 3 windsurf beaches and lots of parking spaces, this is an accessible spot for many Dutch people. The Wolderwijd offers a shallow bottom and flat water, this combination makes the spot ideal for beginners, but also for freeride and freestyle kitesurfing Strand Horst is a great spot located near Telstar Surf.

Launching your kite is done by means of a draglaunch (walking into the water with the kite), for safety reasons. The spot is surrounded by many trees. Once in the air it is good to watch the yellow buoys, because they indicate the zone where kite surfing is allowed. You also have to take into account students and windsurfers, because we want to keep the sport fun for everyone.

Kitesurfing at Strand Horst is done with wind from the north, northwest, northeast, west or southwest. With wind from any angle from the north combined with thermals, in many cases the wind gets stronger than predicted. This makes for great evening sessions that you can finish at the Telstar Beach.

5. Wijk aan zee

On to North Holland, this is where we find Wijk aan zee. With two spots suitable for both beginners and advanced kiters, this is a popular destination. You can kite at the bunker and at the pier. Freeride, wave and foil kiting can be done at both spots, are you going to freestyle? Then it is easier to practice on flat water and we recommend choosing a spot like; Workum, Mirns and Strand Horst.

Once on the water you have to deal with the surf, ebb and flow and currents that increase as you sail further from the Noorderpier. Kiting is only done in Zone 2. Surfers and swimmers are present in Zone 1.

The deep water stretches far and wide and is suitable for beginners, freeriders and freestylers. It is best to enter the water here at high tide or spring tide. In addition, the spacious beach offers more than enough room to build, launch and land your kite. Look carefully from the beach where you can and cannot kite, this is clearly indicated by the yellow buoy. Seen from the beach, this is to the right of the buoy.

Back to North Holland for a moment, because about three kilometers southeast of Hoorn we find Schellinkhout. With shallow water and plenty of space it is the ideal spot for beginners and advanced freeriders and freestylers to improve their techniques.

After you put your car neatly on the parktplaats you rig up the kite on the grass. Ready to hit the water? Then do so between the two stone dikes. Make sure you are close to a nature and swimming area. In doubt about whether or not you can kite somewhere? Then look up the spot manager, he or she can tell you everything!

With their vast beaches, breathtaking landscapes and perfect wind conditions, Texel and Vlieland offer a perfect location for all kitesurfers.

On Texel, the beach at Paal 17 is a favorite spot among kitesurfers because of the constant wind. Here you can enjoy kilometers of space to sail and challenging waves that are perfect for freeriders and waveriders.

On Vlieland, the beach is at the Badweg. Here freeride and waveride kitesurfers can enjoy constant wind and perfect wave conditions!

10. Sandmotor

The Sand Motor near Kijkduin is a popular spot among kitesurfers because of a shallow flat-water spot by the sea. The advantage to this spot is that the lagoon is shallow and connected to the sea, so the lagoon gets bigger and smaller with the ebb and flow of the tide. The disadvantage of the lagoon is that it quickly becomes crowded with many kitesurfers, so check well in advance to see if there is still enough space. There is plenty of parking at the Sand Motor. Keep in mind that you still have to walk a bit from the parking lot to the beach.

Kitesurfing at the Sand Motor is possible with winds from the northwest, west, southwest and northeast.
