It is always a challenge to choose the right windsurf board. There are many different windsurf boards and even more different volumes, so you can easily get lost in your choice. Fortunately, there are a number of ways to discover which volume windsurf board suits you best.
The liters of your windsurf board are equal to the buoyancy of the board. For example, if you weigh 80 kilos and then want to go windsurfing on an 80 liter board with little wind, you will sink quickly. That is why it is always useful to count 30-40 kilos on top of your own weight to find the volume with which you can float.
It is important that you take your mast, boom and windsurf sail into account, because they also weigh a few kilos. For this you can count about 10 kilos on top of your own weight. So if we add this up, it becomes:
Own weight: 80 kilos + weight of your set: 10 kilos + extra weight: about 30-40 kilos = 120-130 liters of board.
Unfortunately, it doesn't work that easily for most windsurfers. There is no table or sum that you can use to find out for everyone how many liters their board needs. However, there are a number of things you can ask yourself that will help you create more clarity for yourself. We will tell you those details in this blog.

What is your level?
Despite the nice calculation above, you can of course imagine that if you are a beginner who weighs 60 kilos, you cannot immediately sail away on a windboard of 110 liters. Beginner boards often have a volume between 165-220 liters. This offers a lot of stability. The better you get, the sooner you drop in the number of liters of your windsurf board.
It is important to take an honest look at yourself and consider what level you are at. Because, for example, can't you sail without a sword yet? Then you will get very frustrated and discouraged when you ride a board with few liters. We want to prevent that, because we want to have fun in water sports!
In other words, take a good look at what your level is and remember what you want to work towards.

Returners
In recent years there has been a huge influx of returnees. Did you windsurf a lot years ago and do you want to pick it up again? Then you will notice that a lot has changed in water sports in a few years. The windsurf material has generally become a lot smaller and lighter. This makes it a lot easier to use! But it is of course not surprising that when you are used to something, switching to new material takes some getting used to.
It is sometimes difficult to advise a returner on a board as there is a lot involved; with what wind force do you go on the water? What is your level? And what material did you sail with in the past? We recommend renting a number of windsurf boards at our surf school. You will probably start with a board with many liters and a somewhat smaller sail, but once you have mastered it again, you will see that you quickly grab a smaller board and larger sail.

Conclusion: ready to buy your own windsurf board?
It is therefore important to take a good look at your own skills, your preferences and, above all, your own height and weight. In addition, it is always good to consider with which wind force you go out on the water. If you do not know immediately, we recommend that you first rent some windsurf boards so that you learn to feel what you like.
