Buying a wingfoil wing

Are you looking for a wingfoil wing? Then Telstar Surf is the right place for you to receive personal and professional advice. Buying a wingfoil wing can be a bit confusing, what size wing do you need, which type, and how many? These are all important questions when it comes to finding the right wingfoil wing. Read below what you should pay attention to when purchasing a wingfoil wing.

What wing size do I need?

The size of a wing is extremely important, which makes choosing the right one quite complicated. Factors such as wind conditions, rider weight, and riding style all play a role in making the right choice. The type of wingfoil also contributes. With a smaller wingsurf wing, you will experience less ā€œpower.ā€ This is ideal if you prefer to wingsurf in strong winds, but it can be a bit challenging in the early stages if the wind drops. If you want to go out on the water with lighter wind, a larger wingsurf wing is recommended. A larger wing is considered to be between 4.5 and 6 square meters. The advantage is that you will have more power in your wing while wingsurfing. More power in the beginning makes it easier to learn wingfoiling. You can always release some pressure manually if needed. However, if your wing is too large, you may end up overpowered, which reduces control and requires more effort. Unfortunately, there isn’t a fixed rule for determining the perfect wing size. Based on experience, we can advise that the average person in the Netherlands does well with a wing between 5.0 and 5.5 m².

Wingfoil wing materials

A wing is mainly made from Dacron, which is a brand name for polyester. This polyester fabric is woven and reinforced with resin. This special manufacturing process makes it highly suitable for wingsurfing.
Some wings, such as the Duotone Unit, feature a window. These windows are usually made of monofilm and are an excellent choice if you want better visibility of the water around you. However, a wing without a window is lighter thanks to the exclusive use of Dacron, and therefore delivers higher performance.
