BUYING A CHILDREN'S WETSUIT

Are you looking for the perfect wetsuit for your child? A children's wetsuit offers the ideal combination of warmth, protection, and freedom of movement, allowing your child to fully enjoy their time on the water. At Telstar Surf, we offer a wide range of children's wetsuits. Our assortment includes brands such as Mystic, Prolimit, ION, and O’Neill for children aged 2 to 16 years.

WHY CHOOSE A CHILDREN'S WETSUIT?

A wetsuit for children is specially designed to maintain body temperature and protect against cold, wind, and abrasions. Even in warmer water, a wetsuit can be useful for preventing UV exposure and minor injuries from rocks or jellyfish. Here are the key benefits:

  • Thermal insulation: Keeps the body warm, even in colder conditions.

  • Protection: Prevents scrapes and provides UV protection.

  • Buoyancy: Helps children move more easily in the water.

  • Comfort and flexibility: Specially designed for maximum freedom of movement.

TYPES OF CHILDREN'S WETSUITS

There are two types of children's wetsuits: fullsuits and shorties. Below, you can read about their differences.

FULLSUITS

Does your son or daughter spend time on the water in spring and autumn under less favorable weather conditions? Then a children's fullsuit is the ideal solution! Fullsuits cover the entire body and are made of neoprene, typically between 3 and 5 millimeters thick. The seams are usually glued on the inside and stitched on the outside. This makes the seams strong and also waterproof.

CHILDREN'S SHORTY’S

Does your son or daughter only go on the water during beautiful summer days? Then be sure to check out children's shorties! As the name suggests, shorty wetsuits do not cover the lower legs and lower arms. If your child surfs in inland waters, we recommend shorties from around 20 degrees Celsius and in good weather conditions. However, this is just an estimate—if it is 20 degrees but cloudy with strong winds, a shorty may already be too cold. This is due to the neoprene thickness, as children's shorty wetsuits often have a thickness of 2/2 or 3/2.

WHAT TO CONSIDER WHEN BUYING A CHILDREN'S WETSUIT?

When choosing the right wetsuit for your child, there are several important factors to consider:

  1. Neoprene thickness: A 2mm wetsuit is usually sufficient for warmer waters, while a 3/2mm or 4/3mm wetsuit is better for colder conditions.
  2. Fit: The wetsuit should fit snugly without being too tight. A loose wetsuit allows water to enter, reducing insulation.
  3. Type of zipper: A back-zip wetsuit is easy to put on, while a chest-zip wetsuit provides more flexibility and less water entry.
  4. Material and durability: High-quality neoprene ensures a longer lifespan and better performance.
