Buy a Kitesurf Trapeze

Are you looking for a kite trapeze? With us you can choose from a wide range of kite trapeze from top brands such as Mystic, ION, Duotone, Prolimit, Brunotti and more. A kite trapeze differs from a windsurf trapeze in that it has a kite harness hook and a safety leash attachment. Many windsurfing trapezes do not have this option. To choose the right harness, we explain below what the differences are between certain kite surfing trapezes

Kite waist trapeze

The first step is to determine if you want a hip or seat trapeze. 90% of kitesurfers today choose a kitesurf hip trapeze. This type of kite harness goes around your waist and thus supports your hips. The advantage of a hip trapeze is that it offers good support and freedom of movement. The hook on a kite trapeze is a bit higher than on a sit trapeze. The biggest disadvantage of a kitesurf trapeze is that it sometimes crawls up. Especially beginning kite surfers often suffer from this because they have the kite hanging above them relatively often.

Every kite hip harness offers support in different places. What is comfortable for one person does not necessarily apply to someone else, every body is different. That is why there are also women's trapezes on the market. These have a slightly different fit than a men's harness. Many kitesurfing lessons are given for this reason with a kitesurf trapeze in which you can sit.

Stiffness of the trapeze

Broadly speaking, you can distinguish between two types of waist trapeze: softshell and hardshell trapezes. One kind offers a lot of backsupport and is wall-to-wall around your waist. Kite surfers who perform fat tricks and want to jump high appreciate the stiffness of these kite trapeze's. The softshell trapezes are cheaper to buy but are certainly not inferior to a hardshell. The softshell is the perfect shape for your body. Of course, there are also waist trapezes that are just in between. Always test or feel your preference for kite harnesses.

Kite sitting trapeze

A kitesurfing seat trapeze is worn lower than a hip trapeze. The sit harness you put on in the form of pants. As the name implies, the power of a sit harness is around the butt and not directly on the back. This type of kitesurf trapeze can be recognized immediately by the bands that run along the bottom. These somewhat restrict the freedom of movement, but ensure that the harness stays in place. You are also pulled out of the water more from below. Beginning kiters often like this. The reason for choosing a kite sitting trapeze is if you have back problems or if you find it annoying that your hip trapeze creeps up.

Important when buying a kite harness

The most important criteria when choosing the right kite harness is whether the trapeze feels comfortable. It is important that you hang in the harness properly (just like while kiting) and pay close attention to any pressure points. If you feel a pressure point now, it will only increase during kiting. It is important that the pressure of the kite harness on your body is evenly distributed. And you feel that the kite trapeze supports your back so you can go on the water for hours. Furthermore, it is good to pay attention to the following points:

  • Does the kite harness offer the right support?
  • Are there no pressure points?
  • Does the kite harness have soft neoprene edges for extra comfort? More expensive trapezes often come with these.
  • Feel that the harness does not creep up easily and the hook stays in place. A wider bar pad will help.
  • Can I put on the kite trapeze easily?
  • Does the trapeze have a good knife pocket? This is a sharp knife to cut your kite lines in case of emergency.

A kitesurf trapeze is a very important part of your kitesurfing kit. The price of a kite harness is of course important, but don't let this guide you too much. When the trapeze does not fit well, you miss the comfort while kiting and the control over your kitesurfing set.
