Buying a men's wetsuit

Are you looking for a high-quality men's wetsuit? A good men's wetsuit provides protection not only against the cold but also against the sun. With our extensive range of men's wetsuits, we have the perfect wetsuit for every season and every watersport enthusiast!

Check out our YouTube video or read our blog! In it, we explain what to look for when buying a wetsuit.

Types of men's wetsuits

Nowadays, there are many different types of men's wetsuits. To help you make the right choice, we have listed them below:

  1. Semidry Men's Wetsuit: This is the most popular type of men's wetsuit and is suitable for both summer and winter temperatures. You will get wet in a semidry wetsuit, but the thin layer of water is warmed by your body temperature, keeping you warm.
  2. Steamer Men's Wetsuit: Within the semidry wetsuits, steamers are the thickest variants. They are ideal for cold winter days and often have glued or taped seams for extra insulation.
  3. Fullsuit Men's Wetsuit: A full wetsuit covers your entire body and is made of thin neoprene, making it suitable for moderate temperatures. It is often worn during the summer months.
  4. Overknee Men's Wetsuit: This wetsuit covers your entire body except for three-quarters of your legs. This makes it ideal for use with kiteboarding or wakeboarding boots. Suitable for temperatures between 14°C and 18°C.
  5. Shorty Men's Wetsuit: A shorty wetsuit only covers your torso, leaving your arms and legs exposed. Perfect for warm summer days.
  6. Drysuit Men's Wetsuit: A drysuit is designed for the most extreme conditions. Thanks to its waterproof seal, your underclothing stays dry. Ideal for the coldest winter days.

WHAT TO CONSIDER WHEN BUYING A MEN'S WETSUIT?

When choosing a wetsuit, it is important to consider thickness, zipper type, neoprene material, and fit.

Thickness of a men's wetsuit

The thickness of the wetsuit determines both warmth and flexibility. A thicker neoprene layer provides more warmth but may reduce mobility. The table below shows the approximate thickness you will need based on water temperature:

Temperature: Wetsuit thickness:
Tropical (>22℃) 2/1, 2/2
Warm (<18℃) 3/2
Mild (>14℃) 4/3, 5/3
Cold (>8℃) 5/4, 5/3
Freezing cold (<2℃) 6/4, 5/4

FRONT ZIP, BACK ZIP, OR ZIPLESS MEN'S WETSUIT?

  • Front Zip: The zipper is placed horizontally on the chest. This minimizes water entry and provides greater freedom of movement.
  • Back Zip: The zipper runs vertically along the back, making the wetsuit easy to put on but slightly less flexible.
  • Zipless: These wetsuits have no zipper. The advantage is maximum flexibility, allowing for unrestricted movement. However, they can be more challenging to put on.

Types of neoprene

  • Single-lined neoprene: This type of neoprene is windproof and warm but also more delicate.
  • Double-lined neoprene: The advantage of double-lined neoprene is that it is more elastic, though it is less warm compared to single-lined neoprene.

Size and fit of men's wetsuits

When buying a wetsuit, it is crucial to consider size and fit. Choosing the right size is essential. But what is the right size? The right fit is when the wetsuit fits snugly to prevent too much water from entering. Comfort is also an important aspect to consider when trying on a men's wetsuit.
