BUY SURF SHOES AT TELSTAR SURF

Are you looking for surf shoes? Read here what to look for when choosing the right surf shoes. Surf shoes are in some cases, in addition to wetsuits, a must while windsurfing, kitesurfing, supping or other water sports activities. It is important to know if the surf shoe fits well and feels comfortable before you put them to use. Read more about the differences between certain surf shoes below.

TYPES OF SURF SHOES

When buying surf shoes, it is important to consider when and why you will be using a surf shoe. After all, surf shoes have different functions. You have thick and thin surf shoes for summer or winter. But they also have a protective function for the surface, for example. Below is a brief explanation of when you should buy a pair of surf shoes and what the advantages and disadvantages are:

  • Thick surf shoes: are you looking for a surf shoe that offers a lot of warmth? Then we recommend you to buy a surf boot or surf sock with a thickness between 3 and 6 millimeters, initially how cold it is and how much feeling you want to keep with your board. High thick surf shoes you will mainly put on in the winter or in the after season. A disadvantage of thicker shoes is that you will experience less board feel. Therefore you might try the surf socks. These surf socks are a lot more flexible and have a thinner sole, so the boardfeeling is optimal.
  • Thin surf shoes: do you prefer standing on the water during the beautiful days? Then look at the 2 and 3 millimeter surf shoes. These shoes are more suitable for spring/summer. The biggest advantage of thin surf shoes is that you will experience more board feel during your kite- or windsurf session.
  • Protection: are you looking for surf shoes purely for protection? You can choose to buy shoes with a rubber sole. The rubber sole always protects more than a bare foot. These surfing shoes are suitable when there are few or no sharp objects in the water. Are you going out on the water near a reef or mussel bank? Then check out our surf shoes with a kevlar sole. Surfing shoes with a kevlar sole are stronger and more wear-resistant.

WHAT DETERMINES THE COMFORT OF A SURF SHOE?

Surf shoes are available in round toe, split toe and possibly with a velcro strap. It is important to try on the different shoes in advance to find out what you like best. Below we will explain what the differences are:

  • Round toe: don't like the feel of flip flops? Then a round toe surf shoe is the ideal choice for you! A round toe surf shoe is the old school shoe that everyone knows and loves. Are you looking for a simple, good surf shoe? Then we recommend you to look at a round toe surf shoe. In general these are more comfortable and familiar.
  • Split toe: Do you regularly walk on flip flops? Then the surf shoe with split toe might be something for you! The advantage of the split toe surf shoes is that they have more board feel compared to the round toe. This is because there is a piece of rubber between the big toe and the rest of the toes. This makes your foot less likely to twist inside the shoe, giving you more board feel.
  • Velcro strap: for windsurfers, surf shoes with a strap can be very nice because the heel is pressed tighter into the shoe. For kitesurfers, a surf shoe with a strap is not recommended, because the velcro strap is between the foot and the kitestrap. This gives a less pleasant feeling.
